Honey Versus Vinegar

You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Sweetness, kindness, or even flattery will get you further than sourness.

Can you recall when someone came at you with a sour, indignant attitude and words to match? Maybe they insulted you or attempted to “correct” your thinking. Perhaps they offered you a dirty look. Did they think they would feel better by making you worse?

The usual response is to push back and off to the races we go!
“You push me? I push you back.”
We convince ourselves, “that’ll teach ‘em.”

But how do you feel when you get pulled into these little battles and races?
Even if they only exist in your mind.

Do you feel angry or frustrated?
Do you feel inflated or deflated?
Do you feel attacked or weak?
Do you feel depressed or rage with a temper?

Sourness tends to breed more sourness. It’s a weak trap for flies.
Flies enjoy the real sweetness of honey, not realizing it will last.

Similarly, affirmations fail to work if the mind is swimming in sourness.
You can repeat a mantra till you’re blue in the face.
But if it looks like a lie, feels like a lie, and talks like a lie…
You won’t feel any better, and possibly worse.

  1. Liked how you asked about self and others – made me realize how often I was sour on myself & how that often was passed onto others – time to sweeten the mix!
